Why they hire in June-August
by: Anonymous

Perhaps schools hire later because students from North America etc. graduated later. I was hired in June because it matched perfectly to my graduation date. This was clearly explained to me before I entered Japan.
If you wonder, why not just ask the school. Schools that hire in June/July/August are keeping teachers in mind. Not like those who hire in April (way too early). Although April suits Japan...

About Chozen English School Japan
by: Anonymous

Living in Japan has been and still is an adventure. You certainly "ain`t" in Kansas anymore! Or BC!

You may just have to Get your Foot in the Door

But once here, and after having completed your one year contract. Then move on to your next job. In that first year, study Japanese, talk
to as many people as you can both Japanese and foreign and try to learn about this country.

Also keep your eyes and ears open for good opportunities.

Check out list of schools for jobs teaching
English for business. Some of the agencies
like Avanti or ALC, send teachers to companies.

You make a very good point about Chozen needing teachers in June. It could be as you seem to suggest that teachers terminated their contracts.

It could of course be because teachers were fired--didn`t pan out.

You should ask Chozen why these teachers left.

Of course they may come up with some stock answer.

I would trust your gut instinct

It is good to be cautious and take your time.

If you can, you may want to come to Japan first
to line up your job. I took out a bank loan
to come.
Yet I did have a job lined up, but I think I could have done better. Yet I was afraid to come without a job, so got many hours for very low pay at Nunoike in Nagoya.

In 1989 Nunoike was paying below industry standard for above standard hours. I needed a job.

Nunoike was actually very good in many ways though. Anyway you want to know about Chozen.

Chozen makes a good point about the cost of living
in their areas. I bet you can save more. I would check on the work hours. Were it me
and I was a young guy again (sigh), I would shoot
for 20 hours a week for 250,000 Yen.

Yet a lot of schools want you to work like you would back home. Yet have no dental or medical.
But the opening salary would be competitive with
new teachers in North America I think.

ECC is not a bad school to start with. I also
know teachers who have enjoyed Aeon and even
Geos--though Geos has had many financial problems lately--went bankrupt then were taken over by
G. Communications and many teachers were laid off.
