Where to find ESL jobs in Indonesia

by Lyanne Thomas

To teach in a tropical paradise, is to teach in Indonesia.

There are several benefits offered by schools in Indonesia to English teachers: usually round trip tickets, health insurance, and accommodation is provided, and sometimes a live-in maid is also provided by reputable employers. The live-in maids make living in Indonesia easier for teachers.

Salaries and hourly rates usually vary depending on locations. English teaching mostly happens after school and work hours which is usually in the evening or in the afternoon.

Since English is part of their national curriculum, seldom will you teach a complete beginner student. Indonesians are also known for their interest in foreign cultures and their passion to learn the English language. Getting an ESL job in Indonesia may require a bachelor's degree or sometimes a TEFL or a TESOL certification.

It is also important to note that the Indonesian Immigration Authority only issues teaching visas to nationals of the UK, Canada, the US, Australia and New Zealand.

Where to find English teaching jobs in Indonesia?

As mentioned earlier there are ample opportunities for a qualified English teacher. One can find a good start with EF, English First the largest chain of language schools in Indonesia.
