Why have your Children Explore Science, Design & Engineering through Lego & the Reason for this Website



I am an educator in Japan. I have taught English to all levels and ages of students here and in Canada.

I am encouraging my own sons to explore this kind of Lego, as I feel that as much as possible, toys should be learning tools,and learning should be interesting if not fun.

We all want our children to grow up and be well adjusted adults. We want our children to be prepared for the future. That is one reason I am having my boys to make this website. I want to make another one with my daughter.

Through this site, they learn computer skills, business skills,and the value and rewards of hard work.

But with Lego Mindstorms I hope they can learn a little computer programming, tweak their imagination a bit (something that is lacking in Japanese junior high school education), and to make them conscious about what they like and dislike, in the hopes that it will steer them towards a career they will enjoy and thrive in. How did it all Originate?

It all started from the set of programmable sensor blocks used in some of the educational toys that Lego makes. It was first released in 1998, with the NXT version sold at stores in 2006.

The newest version was released in 2009 and is known as Lego Mindstorms NXT 2.0.
