Experience
Maths tutor
I had been doing this for 5 years to various levels in secondary school. I enjoyed doing this because maths is my strength. With the skills of tutoring, I have the knowledge to apply it to any kind of tutoring. A few of the students when they graduate, they thanked me and rewarded me with passion for me to have more incentive to move on in this career. I had also tutored a first year university maths subject for 1 semester and he got a grade of 7 (high distinction).
Volunteer teacher aid and prac teaching
To become a good teacher, students’ need is a very important factor. My role was to assist the teacher by helping students with difficulties in various classes in different subjects. During my prac teaching in the education course besides teaching, I also had supervised students. What I learned was what their needs were which will definitely help me in an English classroom. Furthermore I also involved in some community service within the school by helping with the librarians to do video recording, sorting and shelving. There was once a study tour came from overseas to learn speaking English. I had a talk with those students in both English and their language and since then I wanted to become an English teacher in their country. This gave me an impression to have a TESOL certificate.
Customer service
I had been working in a pizza company for 9 months. My main job was to deliver pizzas by car. Time was an important factor to ensure it was on schedule to the customers. Road recognition was also another factor for high efficiency. In addition I was also asked to serve in counter and answer phone calls. This gave me an opportunity to gain a lot of people interaction and communication skills.
Labour
I had been working as a factory hand. My duties include ensure jobs were flowing smoothly, and other carrying of goods. This also helped me to work independently and experience. The skills gained would also be beneficial in an English classroom.
