Hiring a Non-Native English Speaker

I have known a few non-native speakers with good
teaching jobs in Japan, but as far as I know they
all came here with some cash saved (so they
could live off of that while they waited to be hired). Also, it was hidden from students that they were non-native.

Like yourself they were very good speakers and though they got hired, they were "encouraged," to say they were from England.

Fellow teachers too were not supposed to reveal the secret they were really from Germany or Norway etc.

I think if you come here you will be able to be hired. I think it will be almost impossible to be hired from Norway, as it is very difficult
even from America.

Once you are here and people can experience your
great English in person I should think you will be hired.

Some schools might even want to hire you and advertise the fact you are non-native to show
how people can learn English. But then they
would probably be offering lower pay as well.

I work with some Finnish speakers who teach Finnish at the university I teach at.
I believe Norwegian is taught at our university
probably by a Japanese teacher.

Norwegian will be taught at some of the universities, and some will want a native speaker
for that. Often universities will turn a blind eye to the fact that you don`t have an MA or Phd
if you have other assets they require.
