Introduction
I am Japanese Studies graduate of the University of Leeds with a solid understanding of the Japanese language, related skills and also studied Japanese and other related modules as a novice which focused on different aspects of Japan. I also spent a year abroad in Kyoto and this gave me an insight into another culture and equipped me with independent life skills which I now use in my social and work situations. I translate information from Japanese gaming websites so that I can understand their updates before they update their Western equivalents and summarise these so that an English reader can understand them. It is these qualities and experiences that I can bring to the role of English Language Teacher.
Education History
Degree
Japanese Studies BA 2:2 level of degree
University of Leeds, Leeds, West Yorkshire & Kyoto Institute of Technology, Japan
My degree demonstrated my passion for communication, learning a whole new language and immersing myself in it during a year in Kyoto. The course also involved many written submissions and oral presentations together with a heavy emphasis on translation in the final two years of the course. Several modules were studied over the duration of the course covering Japanese culture, society, politics, international relations, the economy, religion, pre and post-war literature and Japanese IT skills.

Work Experience
Business Customer Services Advisor
April 2006 to present
Ventura, Hepworth House, Claypit Lane, Leeds, LS2 8AE, 0845 3309030
Working as a customer service representative for Business mobile telephony contract holders involved many skills. For instance, communication and influencing skills are required to handle business savvy customers and introduce them to new products. Financial control skills are essential to make customer service decisions under pressure that can affect the profitability of a customer’s contract. Furthermore, since the profitability of the department as a whole depends on efficiency of the call, good time management is a must. Moreover, a call centre is a highly regimented and stressful environment that requires a lot of personal discipline from its staff in terms of a professional attitude as well as a commitment to attendance and punctuality.

Interests and activities
My zeal for Japanese culture did not stop with my education, I regularly travel to Japan to enjoy the rich culture and sharpen my language skills that I am continually developing in my spare time. I have in my study abroad and holiday time lived in or visited Tokyo, Kamakura, Kawaguchiko, Matsumoto, Hakuba, Happone, Kyoto, Osaka, Lake Biwa, Shiga, Kobe, Nara, Himeji, Okayama, Hiroshima and Miyajima. Additionally I have a broad interest in the Arts and Media of Japan and my knowledge of Japanese allows me to enjoy this in its original form.
I have also done one-to-one teaching with Japanese students in the past whilst at university, continue to help my Japanese friends with their English language-related queries, check their essays and have a language exchange.
I continue to read various English and Japanese games websites so as to keep up to date with gaming news and releases and do this on a daily basis. I maintain an online blog which I update with game reviews, articles and other related pieces of gaming information called Honeyman-on (http://honeyman-on.blogspot.com/) for my own personal enjoyment and reviewing games that I feel people should know about and try as well. I have also become a recent news contributor to the blog http://dailygamesnews.com/ and have written reviews for http://www.realmofgaming.com/ as well.
