I have a year’s worth of classroom experience under my belt, teaching young people between the ages of 11-18 at two different schools in Sheffield, England. As well as my chosen subject of Religious Education, I also managed to gain valuable experience teaching English, Philosophy and Physical Education. Japanese language club - At my second placement school I was able to set up and run a lunchtime Japanese language club, which was enthusiastically attended by up to 20 students each time. The lessons consisted of basic Japanese grammar, vocabulary, and we also looked at certain aspects of Japanese culture. I was responsible for lesson planning, and utilized a variety of resources to make each lesson fun and interesting for the students. The club ran successfully for 4 months until the end of my placement. 30 Hour TEFL Certificate with TEFL England www.teflengland.co.uk I attended a 3 day intensive TEFL course in Manchester, England. The course was extremely helpful in giving me new ideas in how to plan and deliver lessons, especially in a TEFL context. Summer 2010 Supply Teacher After completing my PGCE, I worked as a supply teacher in a number of schools in Sheffield, England. This allowed me further valuable experience of working in a wide range of schools and classroom situations. Education 2005 – 2008 University of Sheffield BA (Hons) Philosophy 2:1 As part of my degree, I was able to take 120 credits (a third of my time at university) within the East Asian Studies department. My elective modules were in studying Japanese language, Japanese history and contemporary society alongside my Philosophy modules. 1999/2005 Kett Sixth Form Centre/Sprowston High School, Norwich, England A-Levels: English Language B Psychology B French D History C (AS Level) 11 GCSE’s including 1A*, 8As. WORK EXPERIENCE 2004 - Present Cricket Coach – various organizations (part - time) ECB Level 2 Qualified Coach, CRB Checked First Aid and Child Protection certificates Coaching on a one-to-one basis or in groups of up to thirty participants has enabled me to adapt to different needs and abilities, factoring differing ages and group sizes. Ages varied from 4 years old to adults. Taking school PE lessons independently as well as assisting a senior coach VOLUNTARY Sheffield University Cricket Club 2007 – 2008 1st Team Captain / Club Captain • Responsible for setting up a partnership between the University and a local cricket club. • Overseeing the running of three separate teams, which involved ensuring player availability, and other necessary duties such as the hire of grounds, umpires and transport for all teams. SKILLS • Driving – Full, Clean Driving License with Pass Plus • Computer Skills – Experienced with Microsoft Office packages, including Word and Excel • Languages – Basic Japanese and French • Japanese Passport – Dual nationality (British/Japanese) HOBBIES & INTERESTS Sport I enjoy playing many sports, such as football and cricket, in which I have played at senior regional level Travel I enjoy seeing the world, in the last two years I have been to Germany, Italy and Egypt, and have visited Japan on a number of occasions.
