single mums/students

by Miyako M

Hallo, I was wondering if single mums are able to teach English there. I'm mixed with Japanese on my father's side and would like to return to my ancestors' land during this lifetime; at the moment I'm in my 3rd year of University, but unfortunately, they do not have an exchange program with Japan, only other countries I do not wish to go to.

My goal is to apply for a teaching job there once my 4th year begins later this year in Sept. Would it be possible for me to land a job there upon graduating with my BA?

I would love to live on Shikoku Island in Marugame City. Are there any places I should know about regarding where to apply?

The reason for this particular place, is located in that city...I would like to live in a particular house there,if it's still available by the time we get there, but unlike my fellow classmates, I'm into the traditional Japanese homes, and this particular place has the one I would love to live in with my family.

If there was such a program for Canadian students to finish their University courses in Japan for their BA, I would jump for the opportunity.

Alright, I've asked more than one question already, so I will leave it at that. Thanks for reading this, and have a safe and pleasant day. Blessed Be, Miyako

RE: SINGLE MUMS/STUDENTS
by: Miyako

Thank you so much Kevin...I have a solid lead now and I can do some research for Marugame City schools. Also, I wouldn't need a school for my daughter ... lol... she is going to be eighteen this year; I also have a furry baby...munchkin napoleon cat...indoors only; so it's only us three.

As for the age limit on teaching in Japan, I'm not sure now...but I wanted to ask if teaching English is the ONLY type of work there...the reason is, the age on paper compare to the physical appearance is deceiving, but I'm certain they might not consider me because of what will be stated on paper.

I will still check out the Universities in Japan on finishing up for my BA, and I will also contact the Mayor of Marugame City and inquire about the procedures for moving there in the near future.

I did google about the city and yes, it is very small, which I don't mind at all...the house is still up for sale on Imazu-cho street and it would be a dream come true for us to be there living in it and working there. Hopefully, we will be able to get there with the info and advice you helped me with. Thanks again Kevin, BB, Miyako

You can google:

"Greenlist of Japanese Universities" to get a long list of them.

Also you can of course contact Marugame City by Email. I suggested phone and by post. I think I was sleepy! :)

To Our Readers:

Anyone else know more about Shikoku and Marugame City?

Kevin

Teach English in Marugame City
by: Kevin R Burns

Hi Miyako,

Yes I`m sure there are some single mothers teaching English in Japan, but probably in some of the larger centers where babysitters are more widely available. Babysitters are rare here. It is nothing like Canada in that regard. It is very difficult to get someone to take care of your baby here.

But if you can pay a lot of money you can send you child to a private hoikuen or (daycare centre). You must apply. Some are reasonable but you have to meet the requirements to get your child accepted to a cheaper one. Hoikuen are available all over but again you must apply and some are reasonable and others are very, very expensive.

Yes.

Sorry no idea. Best to google:

"english school marugame city" or a search like that. Yahoo is also great for Japan.

Ooops just did it myself and it didn`t bring up any schools. I gather Marugame City is really small? Anyway the first site that came up was the city site for Marugame. Contact them to ask about teaching for Marugame City or to ask about schools in the area. How to apply etc. You can probably do this by mail and or phone.

I`m sure there are many universities here you could study at and finish your degree. But they would probably be much more expensive than in Canada. But google Japanese universities to find out.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Kevin :)
