Sojo University Required Learning Advisor/Lecturer for English

LEARNING ADVISOR (LECTURER) FOR ENGLISH LANGUAGE LEARNING.
5 working days/week (during academic terms), 9am-5pm or 11am-7pm. 5,000,000yen/year (including bonuses). "Employees are hired by the KUIS English Language Consultancy Center (ELCC), but will work in the Sojo International Learning Center (SILC) at Sojo University, Kumamoto. Learning Advisors (LAs) work in the SALC and do not usually teach classes. Instead, work is carried out on a one-to-one, or possibly one-to-two basis with individual SALC users. LAs provide support and advice on language learning; train students and teachers in the use of the self-access learning centre facilities and resource and provide verbal and written feedback to students on work plans. Learning Advisors participate in research projects involving advising or self-access issues that (part of an ongoing project in curriculum renewal and instructional materials design and development). Learning Advisors should maintain a good understanding of the resources and facilities in the SALC. They also assist in selecting and developing new self-access resources, promoting the resources and helping students to use materials and facilities appropriately." Participate in the Professional Development Programme, attend scheduled meetings and activities of the SILC and other special meetings, attend special ceremonies and events, participate in functions organized by the SILC, administration of in-house tests, and cooperate with the Public Relations section of the university in the promotion of the university to high schools. MA (or internationally recognized equivalent) in the area of teaching English as a second/foreign language or closely related field, interest in the field of learner autonomy or self-access language learning, and strong interest in working with Japanese students in both formal and extra-curricular settings required. Experience teaching English or advising in language learning, particularly at post-secondary level, and strong Japanese language ability preferred. "Japanese nationals are welcome to apply for this position." 100,000yen to defray expenses of taking up appointment for overseas appointees, daily transportation allowance, and end of service payment. Two-year contract, renewable once. Position begins April, 2011. Application deadline December 10, 2010.
