Tokai University Requires Non-Tenured English Instructors

Full-time, eight 90-minute lessons/week, classes over 4 days/week, most classes twice/week (M/Thur or Tue/F), some classes once/week. Non-tenured position. Classes include: Required Listening & Speaking and Required Reading & Writing courses; Discussion, Presentation, and Academic Writing; Electives such as TOEIC/TOEFL, Career English, Grammar, Interactive English, Practical English, Pronunciation, Presentation, Debate; Career English and Critical Thinking Minor courses; and Intercultural Understanding Minor courses. Other duties include weekly office hours, attending monthly teachers' meetings, proctoring common exams, and working on committees and special events. Native English speaker, MA (TEFL, TESL, Applied Linguistics or related area), and three years teaching experience at the college/university level in Japan required. MA/PhD (TEFL, TESL, Applied Linguistics or related area), TESL/ESL, teaching or RSA certification, publications in TEFL, TESL, Linguistics (or related field), conversational Japanese speaking ability, and experience with Moodle/capability of maintaining a Moodle server preferred.




APPLICANT MUST CURRENTLY RESIDE IN JAPAN. Will sponsor or renew visa. Accommodation: "15,000yen housing allowance per month." Paid holidays, paid vacation, health insurance (automatically deducted from salary), transportation allowance, and annual research allowance. One-year initial contract, renewable up to a total of six years. Application deadline September 26, 2011. Position begins April, 2012. Apply by postal mail with cover letter ("no more than one page long detailing your interest and qualifications"), CV/resume, recent photo, list of publications, publications ("copies of three major publications from those listed on your CV"), copies of diploma(s) and teaching certificate(s) ("originals must be brought to interview"), university and graduate school transcripts, two recent letters of recommendation ("preferably within the past 6 months, signed and sealed; note: only a list of referees is not acceptable"), two sample syllabi for a university English course ("especially combined skills courses, e.g. Reading and Writing"), and photocopy of current visa. "Application materials will NOT be returned. Selection Process: Preliminary screening will be based on application documents. Candidates who pass the first stage of the selection process, will be notified in October. Interviews (including a mock teaching session) for candidates successfully advancing to the second stage will likely be scheduled for late October/early November. It is therefore important that you list current contact information (email and home and mobile phone numbers) on your CV. Interview transportation costs are to be borne by the applicant, and those interviewed must bring their original diplomas with them."
